I have no time for this

NO SHORTCUTS: My 50k Ultra Marathon Journey

So what happens when you decide to do something crazy… lol.

I started this journey to run a 50km trail race because I originally thought I should run a 100km trail race. Then I said… maybe we need to taper our expectations a little bit, so the 50km was decided on. Still long enough that its waaay more than I can currently do, but a goal that I can realistically achieve, so long as my body holds up.

So this is the beginning of the journey.

In truth, it’s really not easy. I wish I could spend all day focusing on everything that comes with being a full-time athlete, but we need to work to eat, so we do that first and try to get our workouts in when we can.

One of the first races that we signed up for, yes, Carma joined me on this race, her first race ever, was the Canmore Sunset Run. We loved it! It was such an adventure, the weather was terrible, but the race was awesome, and we enjoyed it a lot.

Couch vs 50 KM Trail Race

The beginning of Fight The Couch

Somewhere in the fall of 2025, I had a crazy idea. I was doing some workouts and running on the treadmill, watching YouTube, and began to watch some ultramarathons…

That’s a bad idea; it gives you ideas and makes you think you should do something crazy.

A few months later, Fight The Couch was born. Call it a journey, a pursuit, or simply a midlife crisis. The goal is to run a 50km trail race over the next two years. Not because it’s easy, or that it makes sense, but running was a big part of my youth, and I want to know if I can do it again.

Welcome to the journey 🙂
